Some of my friends only work in one medium.Their work is wonderful, but, I am in capable of doing that. Why you say. It is not in my nature to stick to one thing at a time, just can't do that. and I don;t care to either.
So that's why I cook, paint, garden, play recorder and krumhorn, make mixed media jewelry. It is all fun and fuels creativity. Unfortunately, though it does not bother me that much, it does not make for a clean and tidy house. I have a whole small bedroom as an art studio and four tables of jewelry stuff as well as overflow elsewhere.
I frequently wake up with ideas for all those things. I have to say, I am never bored. Plenty to do and enjoy. Hmmm Love it!
The above image is a mask I just finished yesterday for a fund raiser for Convenent Hospice in Panama City. They were very kind to call and remind that it was dues tomorrow. It is done in acrylic. (Yes, as you can see I ignored the fact it is a mask. ) It is called "Hidden Florida". the picture I used was one I took behind a doctor's office.
You would recognize the picture, but I truly only use the pics I take as reference.

I froze a little visiting in Missouri. It was fun however. I taught an oil workshop and smoozed with friends and friends of friends.
Went to Van Buren, Missouri for a Meet the Artist reception with me as the artist. fun! Even sold a print of Tea and Snap Dragons.
Spend a week with my good friend Liz who had a gallery and gift shop. Her last hurrah is this weekend. She sold the building and the artists are picking up their stuff after this weekend. It was a case of burnout. She works 45 hours a week at another job and comes home on Friday nights to prepare for the weekend when she has the gallery/store open. She loved it but had no time to play.
The barn painting is from the workshop I taught. After everyone left, I finished it.
Left for home yesterday at 10:30am and arrived back in Florida at 11:30 pm. I was so revved from all that driving, I had a hard time falling asleep. Today I am wiped but will be back to my usual high energy self by tomorrow. Good thing as we are putting up a new show at CityArts Cooperative on Sunday.

Busy week-- I finished an alkyd painting yesterday, finished two today. Also finished a watercolor crayon painting. Have one more watercolor on yupo paper to finish. have to cut three matts and frame them. The alkyds will just have a wire and painted edges.
CityArts Cooperative is hanging a new show "Flower Power" on Sunday, I have four paintings already done and then I will have four more hopefully. Just have to cut a few matts and backs-put them together.
We are having a street party on the day of the reception for Flower Power.
Also have six new paintings that are not going in the show, but I will be hanging them in the gallery.
If I have time, I will be painting flowers on some small pieces of ivory and making them into necklaces.
Oh and if that isn't enough I have to go to the dentist. Looks like an old filling needs replacing. Ouch, hurts to eat anything.
Could be worse....

Tomorrow is the big day. We are having a lot of unclothed figures. I have two paintings ( I just downloaded them on my site) and one drawing on metal termed a "repousse". I tried to take a photo of it but did not turn out-too shiny.
Plus I am doing three necklaces and earrings to match with a tiny purple goddess figure. Too cute. Will take a pic and post it.
The show will be up for two months. If you are in the area come to our receptions on August 18 & September 15th both from 4-6 pm.

Our art Coop's upcoming show is: Clothing Optional, so I am busy figuring out just what to do. I took pics of many of my drawings from figure Drawing. will do some oils from them, some jewelry ( make really small prints and put them in resin jewelry). Make a folding book with images. Lots of things I can do.
So here is a pic I'm probably using.

this week I brought roses to my drawing class. what a surprise! the one who draws pretty well had a tough time of it. they were red and yellow. I told her the challenging part is drawing them only using one color-ebony pencil. so you have to figure out just how to reproduce the rose using all your values.
so I drew the bunch, but only finished one rose.

figure drawing is very important, even though you may think you will never use it outside of class. The human figure is the most challenging and intricate thing to draw. It tests your very abilities.
I must confess that I only enjoy drawing the nude figure. A little bit of clothing is okay, but I prefer none. More fun and more challenging that way.

Here is the image in the next step - a little further along. although it is not finished as yet, you can where I have refined my gesture drawing.

Drawing has to have a starting point. Most of my students start with drawing the contours. I start with what is known as a gesture drawing. aq quick drawing that lets me know where things re in relationship to one another and the general shape and location on the page.
As the image I have above.

I did not get chosen to do a show at 621 Gallery in Tallahassee. My art is not weird enough. I do have jewelry in their gallery store though. The last time I was there they had a photography show that featured still lives with dead animals. Nice color, good composition but dead animals like squirrels, birds, etc. Just too bizarre for me. Just really made me realize I need to look for a different gallery there.
I can be edgy but really, really have to think about it.
It is not my natural inclination. I do have my moments however-just not a lot of those weird ones though.
